How Five Wishes Helps with ‘Life Review’
We all do it. Older people want a more structured approach.
The fireside chat series continues with Jim Towey being joined by counselor Margaret McGahon as they discuss how Five Wishes helps families begin important conversations. As a clinician, McGahon aids patients through a process called life review. “Life review allows deliberate space for a person to steer the conversation to talk about their life,” McGahon says. “Research has showen that when elder patients are given the space to talk about their lives, their symptoms go down and health improves.” Wish number five, “What I want my loved ones to know,” allows space for people to write about their life. McGahon suggests that it mirrors similar aspects of life review.
