Five Wishes Overview

How it started, how it came to be so popular
June 29th, 2023

Jim talks about the long history of Five Wishes, the advance care planning tool he wrote in 1997 and took national the following year.  He points out that in 25 years Five Wishes has become the nation’s preferred advance directive, with more than 41 million copies in national circulation and available in 31 languages and in Braille.

Next week he’ll start a two-part series with Margaret McGahon, a psychotherapist, on how the document is used before, during and after a serious illness or death.
