California to Become Assisted Suicide Mecca?

Disabled groups, others see legal safeguards going out the window

Politico reports California lawmakers are considering legislation that will remove many of the legal safeguards established when they approved physician-assisted suicide in the state in 2016.  Under proposed legislation, access to assisted suicide would be expanded to include those with dementia and for those from out-of-state.  Waiting periods will shrink from 15 days to just 48 hours.  The proposals are so extreme that even the nation’s leading proponent of physician-assisted suicide opposes them.
