Delaware Rejects Assisted Suicide

Gov. Carney vetoes assisted suicide bill that passed by only one vote

Delaware Gov. John Carney vetoed a bill that would have authorized physician-assisted suicide in the state. The legislation had passed both chambers of the legislature by only one vote. “I still don’t believe a firm consensus has been reached on what is a very difficult issue – in Delaware or nationally,” Carney wrote in his veto message. “I am fundamentally and morally opposed to state law enabling someone, even under tragic and painful circumstances, to take their own life.”
