The great bait-and-switch of state assisted suicide laws
To gain public support to pass their assisted suicide laws, states promised accountability and transparency. In practice, neither exists. When we uncovered the story of Eileen Mihich last year, we saw firsthand that all the guardrails that supposedly make these laws safe are ineffective, and how even in instances of abuse, no one is ever held accountable. It’s a classic bait-and-switch operation. Aging with Dignity President Jamie Towey’s latest op-ed in The Hill shows that the deception and laxity of assisted suicide laws will only result in more abuse.
